How to read this

Comparison pages written by one of the two parties are worth what you pay for them, so here is the bias stated up front: we built LaChart, and we chose what goes in the table. What we have tried to avoid is the usual trick of picking only rows we win.

The short version: on the coaching fundamentals the two overlap almost entirely, and a coach would not feel a capability missing in day-to-day work. LaChart is meaningfully better if lactate testing is central to how you set zones, and meaningfully cheaper. TrainingPeaks is better if you depend on its ecosystem, its plan marketplace or WKO-class modelling.

Table stakes

What you would not be giving up

The list a coach arrives with when they are already running a roster somewhere else. Every line is something the app does today.

Unlimited athletes
One workspace, switch between them in a tap.
Training calendar
Planned and completed on one grid, per athlete.
Structured workout builder
Steps, ramps, repeats and groups with real targets.
Workout library
Save a session as a template and reuse it across the roster.
Push to Garmin
The session lands on their watch as a structured workout.
Planned vs completed
Duration, distance, load and power against what you asked for.
TSS, IF and work
Load per session and per week, on power, pace or heart rate.
Fitness / fatigue / form
CTL, ATL and TSB per athlete across the season.
Annual training plan
Periodised blocks, target load, races and taper.
Peak power & pace curves
5 s to 5 h, this block against all time.
Laps & stream analysis
Every lap and every channel, drag to zoom and measure.
Workout comparison
The same session against every previous attempt.
Time in zones
Per session and per period, from measured thresholds.
Strava, Garmin & Apple Health
Automatic sync, plus .FIT upload.
Automatic categorisation
Sessions sorted into endurance, LT1, LT2 and VO₂max.
Comments on the session
The athlete asks about Tuesday under Tuesday.
Health monitoring
Sleep, HRV, resting HR, illness and injury episodes.
Branded PDF reports
Your logo on the test report the athlete keeps.
The difference

Where LaChart is not the same product

Lactate testing, unmetered
Six threshold methods on one curve with the measured points shown, as many tests as you want to run, and a blood sample taggable onto any lap of any workout.
Price
€14.99 a month for a coach with unlimited athletes; €6.99 for a solo athlete. Two weeks free and no card for the calculators.
Independence
Self-funded and not owned by a hardware company, which since July 2026 is no longer true of TrainingPeaks.
Smart trainer control included
Bluetooth FTMS resistance control for structured sessions, without a third subscription.
The honest half

Where TrainingPeaks is the better choice

If any of these is central to how you work, stay where you are — you would be trading down, and finding that out a month in helps neither of us.

Integration ecosystem
Two decades of third-party support. If a niche tool in your workflow speaks one platform natively, it is probably that one.
Training plan marketplace
A large catalogue of purchasable plans, and a storefront for coaches selling their own. LaChart has none of this.
Advanced modelling
WKO5 goes considerably further into power-duration modelling than LaChart does.
Scale and track record
More coaches, more years, a bigger team, and a body of institutional knowledge a small project cannot substitute for.

Moving across

What switching actually involves

History moves via Strava, Garmin Connect or .FIT upload. There is no importer that reads a TrainingPeaks account directly.

STEP 1
Connect Strava or Garmin
One OAuth click each. Your history backfills on its own — rides, runs and swims with power, heart rate, pace, cadence, laps and per-second streams, not just summaries.
STEP 2
Set zones from a real test
Enter an existing lactate test or run a new one. LT1 and LT2 come out by six methods with the measured points on top, and every zone downstream is anchored to them.
STEP 3
Build the week
Structured sessions with targets in watts, pace, heart rate or the athlete’s own zones, dropped onto their calendar.
STEP 4
It reaches the watch
The session is written into their Garmin Connect calendar with every step and target intact. You can still export TCX or FIT if something downstream needs it.
Questions

The ones people actually ask

Is LaChart a full replacement for TrainingPeaks?
For the coaching fundamentals — calendar, structured workouts, load and form, peak curves, lap and stream analysis, an annual plan — yes. For a training plan marketplace or WKO-class power-duration modelling, no.
What is the biggest practical difference?
How zones get set. LaChart is built so that LT1 and LT2 come out of a measured lactate test and everything downstream is anchored to them, rather than derived from a percentage of an estimate.
How do the prices compare?
LaChart is €14.99 a month for a coach with unlimited athletes and €6.99 for a solo athlete. TrainingPeaks pricing varies by plan and billing period and is best read from their own site.
